Application Checklist & Deadlines

Fall Semester: June 15 for new students; July 1 for current F-1 students in the U.S.
Spring Semester: November 1 for new students; November 15 for current F-1 students in the U.S
Summer Session II: May 1 for all applicants
    Basic Requirements
  • GPA Requirement: Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 2.00.

  • Age Requirement: Students must be 18 years old by the start of their program at SBCC.

  • Academic Program - English Proficiency Requirement: Refer to English Proficiency Requirement options below in Step 1.

1. SBCC International Student Admission Application

Submit the International Student Admission Application Form (opens to a new web page). Register for an account, and begin the online application.

  • Choose a program: 1) English Language Training & College Prep or 2) Academic. The Academic Program requires proof of English Proficiency; review the PDF below for options to demonstrate proficiency.

  • Type your date of birth in U.S. format (month/date/year), and your name to match the machine-readable zone on your passport. Remember to print out your application and sign it!

  • Choose a major. Reference the Programs of Study below to choose a major. To view program/major descriptions visit the Academic Department Descriptions

    2. $50 Non-Refundable Application Fee

    This is a one-time, non-refundable fee. Submit a copy of the application fee receipt with your application materials. Select the term you are applying for at the link below.

    3. Financial Statement Form

    Complete the Financial Statement form and obtain all necessary signatures from your sponsor/s. Download the PDF below.

    4. Bank Certification Letter

    An official letter from your bank or other financial institution is required in order to verify you or your sponsor have sufficient funding for tuition and living expenses. Requirements:

    • must be written in or translated into English

    • printed on company letterhead

    • written within the past 6 months or less

    • have the name of the account holder

    • state the account balance - $25,463 (fall/spring) or $29,794 (summer session II)

    • and have an official signature/stamp on financial institution letterhead

    6. Copy of Your Passport

    Submit a copy of the picture page of your passport.

    7. Transcripts

    GPA Requirement: A minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.00 or the equivalent.

    GPA Appeal Process: Students who have a GPA of close to a 2.00 may apply for an appeal by submitting a personal statement. An admissions decision will be made on a case-by-case basis.

    Transcript Requirements:

    Transcripts for all coursework completed in high school (a.k.a. secondary school), English language programs, and university or college. All collegiate coursework must be reported on the SBCC application. Transcripts should be translated into English by an official translator and/or translating agency.

    Unofficial transcripts are sufficient for admission purposes.

    Official transcripts will be required for students who plan to apply for transfer credits, participate on an SBCC athletic team, or challenge course pre-requisites. Official transcripts must be in an envelope sealed by the schools you attended and should not be opened by the applicant. Official transcripts become SBCC property and cannot be returned to students.

    8. Current F-1 students in the United States

    If you are currently attending a U.S. institution or have within the past 5 months, submit:

    1. Copy of your F-1 visa
    2. I-94 Arrival/Departure Form
    3. Copy of your current Form I-20
    4. Verification of Status Form - Download below.

    You must have an attendance record of at least 80% at your current school and be in good academic standing to apply.

    How to submit a completed application?

    Scan your documents at a resolution of 300 dpi or higher and upload them to the Online Application Portal after you have completed the online application (step 1). Photos of documents taken by a camera/iphone/ipad are NOT accepted. Please scan each document as a separate PDF file.

    **Allow 2 weeks for your application to be processed after it has been received. Incomplete applications will not be considered. We recommend that you keep copies of everything you turn in.**

    Admission Decisions & Mailing

    Admission decisions are e-mailed to the email address on your application. Please make sure that your e-mail address is clear and easy to read.

    The acceptance packet is mailed to the address on your application, unless you indicate otherwise at the time of applying.

    If you wish to have your acceptance packet sent via FedEx, DHL or UPS, please order eShipGlobal. Sign up in the section for students and enter the shipping address and payment. We will receive confirmation that you placed your order and we will mail out your acceptance packet the following business day.
